Credentials

I am a professional flutist living on Long Island with over twenty years of teaching experience.  My professional training includes Juilliard Pre-College and Northwestern University, where I received undergraduate and graduate degrees. My performance background includes orchestra, chamber music and solo repertoire. I have performed both locally on Long Island and the tri-state area, as well as internationally. I am a founder and co-director of the acclaimed Oyster Bay Music Festival (www.oysterbaymusicfestival.org). I am also on faculty at Friends Academy in Locust Valley and the Green Vale School on Long Island.

My Teaching Philosophy

Over the two plus decades I have been teaching the flute, I have three main goals. I hope that all my students reach the highest level of proficiency they can, that they enjoy and feel confidant in their accomplishments, and to develop

Preparing My Students

During my lengthy career as a teacher, I understand that each student has individual musical capabilities and goals, and I tailor every lesson to those needs.  I am well versed in all levels of NYSSMA preparation. The majority of my students have advanced further to SCMEA, All County, and All State Music Festivals. Many of my advanced students have been winners and finalists in the Long Island Flute Club Competition, the Long Island Philharmonic Concerto Competition and the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition.  They have also become members of the Long Island Youth Orchestra, Nassau Suffolk Band, MYO and the Children’s Orchestra Society.

Several of my accomplished students have been accepted to Juilliard Pre-College and Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division, NYSSSA Orchestral Studies Program and The Young Ensembles Program at Lincoln Center. Others have advanced to performance and music education degrees at The Eastman School of Music, Cincinnati School of Music, the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, the Hartt School of Music, and others.  It is my great pleasure to know that these students will also go on to educate future musicians.
