Biography

About Me

Lauren Ausubel, a coveted New York chamber and orchestral musician, has performed with numerous ensembles including Ensemble Alma, Ridotto Chamber Players, New York Flute Quartet, Serenata Winds, Mosaic Trio, Flutissimo, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Manhattan Sinfonia. She received critical acclaim performing at Carnegie Hall as principal flute with the New York Women’s Ensemble.  According to a review in the New York Times, “The ensemble’s unanimity attested to a chemistry fueled by talent and mutual regard.”  Ms. Ausubel is also on faculty at Friends Academy and the Green Vale School.

New York Flute Quartet

Ms. Ausubel is a founding member of the New York Flute Quartet (formerly Femmes Four) which gave their Carnegie Hall debut recital at Weill Hall as winners of the Artists International Competition. They also received a Residency Partnership Program Grant through Chamber Music America, funded by J.P. Morgan Chase.  Femmes Four brought classical music to underserved children throughout the New York Metropolitan area. In 2012, sponsored by Friends of the United Nations, the quartet traveled to China as ambassadors for International Peace Day. Currently the quartet is scheduled to record a CD of contemporary works for the Naxos label.

Performances

Ms. Ausubel performed with famed guitarist Viginia Luque on the  television series, The Heart of Art. She and Ms. Luque were also a featured ensemble at the Artosphere Music Festival Series in Fayetville, Arkansas. Ms. Ausubel has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, The 92nd Street Y, Christ and St. Stephens Church, St. Peters Church, Queens College Contemporary Music Series and National Flute Association Conventions  Ms. Ausubel received critical acclaim as a finalist in the Myrna Brown Flute Competition in Dallas, TX.

Oyster Bay Music Festival (OBMF)

An avid educator and performer, Ms. Ausubel has combined both passions by founding and co-directing the highly regarded Oyster Bay Music Festival (www.oysterbaymusicfestival.org), which will be entering its tenth season in June 2021. The festival's innovative classical music concerts have been held throughout the town of Oyster Bay in both traditional and unusual venues. The aim of the festival is bringing classical music to the community in innovative and engaging performances. Daily flute master classes, chamber music coaching sessions and music administration are amongst her responsibilities.

Education

Ms. Ausubel has attended Juilliard Pre-College, holds a B.M. and M.M. from Northwestern University.  Her teachers have included Harold Bennett, Alan Cox, Walfrid Kujala, Richard Graef, and Sam Baron.
